Logo

Okay, so I need something to identify my work, something to let people know who's stuff they are looking at/through, so a logo is a must. I played around with a few concepts and found two I like, one you can see as the banner for this here blog you're reading, the other is right here:

As you can tell there isn't a large difference between the two, the only actual difference is the swirl on this logo, but I like it, makes it look arty and what not. The other one looks more professional so I will probably only use the swirl for an artsy type of business card.

Magazine Cover

Every good comic needs a cover of some sort! Something I must admit I overlooked until recently and am ashamed of quite frankly, thankfully the matter has been resolved and a cover there is... Ta-Da!
I struggled for ideas to begin with but eventually came up with this idea of the zombie bursting out of the ground. I feel this cover is exciting enough that it could attract people to perhaps take a peek inside and see what the story portrays. Or even just to find out the meaning behind the random name I've given my comic. But therein is another nugget of information that I cannot divulge just yet. Maybe someday soon.

Coloured Magazine

Magazine

It's that time boys and girls! The moment you've all been waiting for. The time for me to work on my magazine! Yay! Wooo!..... Ahem.. Sorry about that. Where was I? Ah yes, the magazine. Since deciding to do "Good vs Evil" I had the storyline in mind for the magazine, noted it all down and now have finally got down to drawing it, it's only a small comic, but maybe if the mood takes me I shall do a next issue! You know, once I finish the first issue....

Poster

So I have both forces done and both charging and looking angry, or in the "Evil" case, looking dead, which I suppose is a good thing, being zombies and all, I digress. I put the two forces together and it didn't look quite right as it was so I put in a horizon line. In keeping with my theme of using appropriate backgrounds I decided to have a middle ground flooring and then portray the sides using the sky, that way the style is still there and it doesn't look like the figures are "floating in space". Wow I dislike that phrase, cannot believe I'm using it, next thing I'll be saying "less is more". Oh well, I nearly went a full post without going on a tangent.
I have looked more at the poster now, trying to get a fighting scene of some sort together, I experimented with the pictures I'd already drawn to see what sort of fight scene I could create (as shown right) but I feel I would be better focusing the fighting in the magazine. That and the picture didn't turn out quite how I wanted due to the different perspectives from each drawing I'd merged together so looks like I'll be drawing something else for the poster and saving the fight for the magazine, so I'll cross that bridge when I get to it. Kay?
For the poster, I decided to have the lead up to the fight, with the charging, and the angry pouting, and the weapons and the... No actually that about sums it up. So I came up with this lot all looking evilly at each other and what not, to make it easier identifying sides I've even put headers on them to show who is who, cause I'm nice like that.

Postcards

I finally abandoned the random drawing and focused on the outcomes I need, starting with the postcards. As you can see from the images I kept the same style I have used for the random drawing of characters, and also kept the characters as that's who I practiced the style on. I decided as I'm doing "Good vs Evil" I would have my set of postcards as just that. Two good and two bad postcards so that it is obvious who is against who. Can you tell which postcard is which? If not, I clearly didn't label them well enough..... Yeeahh, that's why you couldn't guess...

I drew, and I drew and I drew and I drew and I drew. You get the idea, I drew a lot. Just getting used to the style I am going to use for my outcomes.
I scanned in all my drawings and decided to have some fun with them, I was having a very hyperactive day and decided a "Good vs Evil" theme would be cool for my work so I set about producing them and then colouring them, which again I realise I may need to practice at. Although, I must admit it's quite a nice outcome if I do say so myself. Then what with me being me and all, I had a play around with the layers and came up some interesting looking images.

The Real Work Begins

Now to get down to brass tax! Whatever that means, anyone any ideas?
Wait, hold that, it doesn't matter right this second cause I'm back to show you the next stage on my journey..... (drum roll) .... Illustrations!
Okay so the build-up wasn't necessary, but you forgive me right? In order to produce an array of work leading ultimately to a postcard set, a poster and a magazine I needed the images that would go onto said items. What better time to find a style of drawing I LOVE doing, simple yet effective. So I decided to practice it on myself, some of my friends, oh and of course Bane, cause, well, why not really?
Didn't quite realise how much fun texturing images could be, so I did more! More you say? Yes, more! After all, practice makes perfect, as they say. Granted the later experiment wasn't as... Successful as George was, but I think it still turned out alright in the end, and that's all that matters, right?

Why A "FEAR cloud" I hear you ask, and that is a good question, for all intents and purposes it is a very random thing to produce, and for your inquisitiveness I shall reward you with a nugget of information...
I am a comic fan. This, thing is from the highly respected "Green Lantern" storyline which happens to be one of the best comics in my eyes (for reasons I will not go into right now). There we are, don't you feel better now knowing about the background of this picture? Good.

Texturing

To do images with textures on, I first had to scan some textures in, for which I chose several paint markings and a carrier bag. I scanned in some line drawings and then imported everything into photoshop. Using the layer options I was able to show textures through certain aspects of my line work and along with cropping and layer effects was able to create some (in my opinion) wonderful effects within the work.
Say Hi to George, One of my texture test subjects.

PhotoMontages

Shoe Tree
I started using Photoshop with a few of the basics, simply using several imported images I merged them and created a few simple photomontages. I did several montages including "Watch Dog" "Rain Man" and "Six Feet Under" although I felt none were as good as "Shoe Tree" (shown left).
